Driving Safely

in Traffic
Driving safely on the road is a process that combines experience with rules. People that are able to read their surroundings and are willing to follow the rules will be able to make sure that they are safe, and that other people around them are as well.

In order to drive safely, the person behind the wheel needs to know what the various signs and markers on the road mean, and how they can react to traffic situations in order to avoid accidents. Following these guidelines will make it so that the experience is one that happens without a hitch.

The first part of driving safely on the road is being comfortable in the car. The person should check their mirrors to make sure that they can see adequately, and adjust their seat so that they are comfortable and properly situated.

This routine is one that should become habit for those involved. It allows the person behind the wheel to quickly scan their vehicle and make sure that they are comfortable enough to proceed, as well as making sure that they can reach all of their instruments properly.

Once the participant is underway, then they should be on the lookout for signs and markers that allow them to know what to do while they are on the road. Being able to identify these constructs is one of the focal points of the overall experience, and is one that bears particular attention.

The most common things that people will encounter will be stop lights and signs, speed limit signs, and signs that give special direction. The significance of these markers is something that is instantly recognizable, being color coded and specially made so that heir shape denotes the purpose.

When a stop sign or a stop light is encountered, it denotes an intersection where there may be traffic coming from another direction.
These markers are in place to make sure that traffic flows smoothly, and that people are able to all safely have a turn.

In the case of a stop sign, it will be a large red sign with the word "stop" printed don it. The driver is expected to stop their vehicle completely, with the nose of their car lining up with the invisible line projected by the marker itself.

In the case of a stop light, there will be three different options available. If the light is green, then straight traffic is allowed through.

If the light is yellow then traffic is allowed through; but they should be cautious, because the light is about to turn red momentarily. A red light work the same way that a stop sign does, in that is completely halts traffic form going through.

The difference between the two lies with the momentary stop of the stop sign, and the permanent stop of the stop light. Once the light has changed back to green, then drivers are allowed through once again.

Other markers on the road have instructions printed on them and they often have a pictograph that represent the intended action, so that people can easily read them and follow the instructions. Making sure that people follow these instructions to the letter is the best overall way to ensure the safety of the vehicle and its occupants.

When in traffic, it is critical that the person behind the wheel be able to tread the flow of traffic and how it will impact them. Defensive driving is encouraged, wherein the driver of the car is mindful of other vehicles and their actions.

Defensive drivers know to defer in the case of confusion, and to give everyone around them room to maneuver. Being conscious of the other people on the road is the best overall way to ensure safety, since they may not be actively mindful of their surroundings as they should be.

Combining all of these factors together will make for a safer experience for everyone involved. Those that follow these regulations will be ahead in the overall scope of things.

Driving safely requires the person behind the wheel to be alert and conscious of the surroundings, and to be observant of regulations in the area. Making sure to read road signs and knowing how to handle traffic is a good way to make sure that the journey is one that happens without complications.
