Making Money Online - Why You Need Pay Per Click Advertising

Making money online seems to be something everyone thinks is easy to do, but like all businesses, only a fraction of people succeed. The biggest difference is the cost of setting up an online business versus the cost of a traditional store.

Is it through luck that the few seem to have tremendous online success? Hardly. The people that succeed online use the same principals of business that they would apply to an offline business. They have a vision, determination and the desire to succeed. They are prepared to put in a lot of hard work and some money to make their vision a reality.

Traffic is the lifeblood of every business online. Without visitors you will not have much success. Without visitors, you will have nobody to buy your products or services. Simple math says the more people come to your site, the more sales you will make. But this is only partially true.

Definitely the more targeted traffic you have come to your site the more money you will make, but then only if you offer enough value.

Like any business, not everyone who enters a store will buy. Many will walk in and then walk out, others will browse around and some of those people will buy.

The issue is getting a large enough quantity of targeted buyers so that the small number who do buy from you create a good profit. Big companies have tens of thousands of visitors a day with a small percentage accounting for sales.

The big companies also spend a lot of money getting those tens of thousands of visitors to their sites with advertising. Again, it's simple. If enough people know you exist, then enough people will come to your site.

Advertising for free should never be discounted, since you can bring in a lot of traffic, but you are unlikely to ever bring in the kinds of quantities that paid advertising will bring. Paid advertising includes sponsorship of relevant sites, ezine ads and pay per click campaigns with the search engines.

Using a search engine such as Google or Yahoo is the most common method people find what they want or need on the Internet. You probably do it yourself. A search engine is free and easy to use and they have millions of visitors a day. Naturally, big business is attracted to an opportunity like this.

Search engines are the ultimate information tool. If your site link pops up in the top few results of a search it is more likely that someone will go to your site. It is quite possible to get a high search engine ranking using SEO (search engine optimisation) techniques but if you want to make sure, paying for your ads will ensure you appear near the top.

Paying for ads means you are paying for traffic. It may not sound great, but the increase in sales tells a different story. When you pay for advertising, you are paying for consistent traffic flow to your site and therefore you are paying for consistent sales.

A pay per click campaign means you are not paying for the number of times your ad appears, but rather you pay every time someone clicks on your link. The number of times your ad appears has a lot to do with the keywords and key phrases you choose. If you choose something very obscure that only has a few searches a day, your chance of bringing traffic to your site is low. If you choose very popular keywords and key phrases, you will end up paying a lot more to ensure your site is chosen to be displayed (this is known as a keyword bid and can vary from a few cents to over $20 per click!)

Other advertising methods also include paying for a particular number of impressions (the number of time your ad is shown).

Both examples show that it is vital to get your keyword research right to get the maximum number of hits from people interested in your product. There are many tools that will help you get the best keyword information for you.

Spending money paying for traffic will give you a boost in traffic which will result in greater sales. Paying for your traffic can be a really good idea to get your business soaring to success.
