Not All Traffic is Bad

If you're still working in the corporate world then the word 'traffic' probably sends shivers up your back, but if you're working at home online that word probably puts a big smile on your face. When it comes to internet business, driving traffic to your website is the key to success. There is something even better than getting traffic to your site though - driving targeted traffic. This is your target audience; the people that are likely to purchase your products or services for varying reasons.

There are a number of ways to focus your marketing to reach your target market without wasting valuable time or money on an audience that isn't likely to respond. One way is to get your business listed on online directories. These are set up so that people can search specific types of businesses by type, services offered, location etc. By listing yourself on sites like Yahoo! Directory your business will show up when people search specifically for what you offer.

This is your target audience because these people are looking for your type of company, not just happening upon it.

Another way to reach your target market is to submit articles to online article databases. People often search these or they will show up in search engine results when someone is looking for information on a specific topic. If your article shows up and the person is intrigued by what you have to say then it is very likely that they will follow the link at the bottom back to your site. Try to keep your articles fairly short so the reader doesn't lose interest before they reach the bottom and checking spelling and grammar is always a good idea.

Blogging is being used by more and more companies to get potential clients to their websites. These drive traffic in a similar way to the article submissions by luring customers by providing interesting and relevant information. The difference is that a blog is your own personal platform that you don't share with thousands of other writers. You can also link directly to it from your main website.

The oldest, tried and tested way of driving traffic is exchanging links with complimentary business sites and it still works. All of these methods are easy, inexpensive and effective ways to drive the best kind of traffic to your business.
